Propain65 Thread Starter. Joined Apr 13, Messages About 2 years ago, my friend gave me his old laptop. Frankly, I never really decided to touch it until now. So I turned the senior on and logged on the what used to be my friend's administrator account. Then, I made one of my own and deleting that account, to clear up some space for what I whatever I was going to put of my own.
Then, when I decided to jump on the internet, I encountered a problem; the wireless network wasn't turning on. I looked on the front and I found a slide switch with a radio tower and an orange light next to it on the front left of the laptop.
Assuming that's the switch, i flipped it one way. Nothing happened, no icons appeared in the notification area and the orange light didn't change at all. Only the local area connection was there. There was nothing else.
So, i grabbed the ethernet cable and connected it the laptop with my router and went off googling. In step 1, it asks to check for the latest drivers. This is really confusing, because the link it gives just takes me to the front store page.
I decided to skip it and move on. Any clarifying help is appreciated. Collapse -. Try doing this one. I Got it fixed. Thanks for. Thanks for posting this! Back to Networks Forum. Start or search. In our old house we had DSL wireless router and both laptops where able to see and connect to the network. In our new home same company and probably same router if I am not mistaken my Windows Vista Laptop sees and connects just fine to the wireless network.
The XP laptop however sees around 10 wirelss networks in the Wireless Network Connection 2 screen but not ours. I am really out of ideas especially since it could see and connect the network in the old house 2 days ago. It just won't even see my wifi network listed so can't even try to get to the part of trying to connect and entering the key.
Method 1. Note that if buying a router, all routers are compatible with Windows XP. It is wireless adapters that have varying levels of Windows XP compatibility.
If your router isn't new, then turn it on and skip to "Detecting your wireless adapter" below. Plug your router into your internet socket if you want to share your internet. Enter your username and password from your router often "admin" and "admin" then your internet service provider.
Method 2. Your wireless adapter should be detected automatically by Windows XP. Method 3. If your connection appears in the Wireless Connection Manager then connect to it, otherwise run the wizard. This is the password that you've set up on your router for people to connect and access the Internet. Yes No. Not Helpful 6 Helpful 6.
